Office-based, Monday to Friday 8am-5pm

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design electrical systems and components for oil and gas engineering projects, including power distribution, lighting, instrumentation, and control systems.

  • Prepare detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications using CAD software, ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and project requirements.

  • Perform calculations and analyses to determine electrical loads, voltage drop, short-circuit analysis, and protective device coordination for power distribution systems in oil and gas facilities.

  • Assist in the selection, specification, and procurement of electrical equipment, materials, and components, considering factors such as performance, reliability, cost, and compatibility with project specifications.

  • Coordinate with engineers, designers, and project managers to integrate electrical designs with overall project requirements and specifications, ensuring consistency and alignment with project objectives.

  • Review and validate engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and project discussions to provide input, insights, and recommendations on electrical design aspects of oil and gas projects.

  • Support construction, installation, and commissioning activities by providing technical guidance, resolving design issues, and ensuring compliance with electrical design specifications.

  • Conduct site visits and inspections to assess existing electrical systems, identify deficiencies, and provide recommendations for improvements or upgrades as needed.

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in electrical design for oil and gas applications, and incorporate innovative solutions to enhance project efficiency and performance. 

    Specific Tasks 

  • Review, comprehend and provide input to P&ID drawings, and instrument indexes.

  • Develop electrical drawings and work packages for industrial facility design. 

  • Assist in the design of power distribution systems and produce corresponding Single Line Drawings. 

  • Develop Area Classification Drawings. 

  • Develop uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems drawings. 

  • Support control system specification and design. 

  • Assist in coordination of Conduit and cable schedule creation. 

  • Assist in cable tray design and supporting means. 

  • Coordinate Heat Trace Design with design teams. 

  • Create E-house and electrical building designs. 

  • Create package pre-wire designs. 

  • Participate in constructability reviews with clientele and contractors. 

  • Support field construction and commissioning efforts through RFI reviews and on-site assistance. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must have an Engineering Design & Drafting Diploma/Certificate.

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience within an EPCM environment.

  • Current professional status membership with APEGA/ASET or similar (transferrable) within Canada. 

  • Familiarity with and experience in applying industry standards. 

  • General understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code. 

  • Microsoft Office experience and knowledge. 

  • Bluebeam Revu/Adobe experience. 

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu or Adobe, and NavisWorks, and Microsoft Exce.l

  • Working knowledge of discipline-specific skills, codes, and standard practices.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to self-check and produce accurate designs.
