Roles and Responsibilities

  • Take direction from project leads and senior staff on project responsibilities.

  • Attend internal and client project meetings.

  • Review the work of others to ensure consistency and integrity of design throughout the project ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design electrical systems and components for projects, including power distribution, lighting, heat trace, instrumentation, and control systems.

  • Under Senior oversight, independently prepare detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and project requirements.

  • Perform calculations and analyses to determine electrical design guidelines and specifications for industrial facilities.

  • Assist in the selection, specification, and procurement of electrical equipment.

  • Support construction, installation, and commissioning activities by providing technical guidance.

  • Conduct site visits when necessary to assess existing electrical systems, identify construction deficiencies, and provide recommendations for improvements or upgrades as needed.

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in electrical design for applications and incorporate innovative solutions to enhance project efficiency and performance.

  • Support materials take-offs, estimating and provide constructability review support.

  • Technical evaluation of vendor/contractor proposals providing recommendations to senior staff.

  • Field engineering/discipline specific construction support, input to support resolution of discipline specific RFI's.

Specific Tasks

  • Review, comprehend and provide input to P&ID drawings, control narratives, instrument indexes, and shutdown keys.

  • Support the development of Design Basis Memorandums (DBM).

  • Support the development of Electrical Scopes of Work.

  • Support the development of project schedules as they relate to electrical engineering.

  • Support the development of Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimates for Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls.

  • Develop electrical drawing and work packages for industrial facility design.

  • Size electrical services and work with utilities on behalf of clientele to secure.

  • Support the development of power distribution systems and produce corresponding Single Line Drawings.

  • Support the development of Area Classification Drawings, Reports and Fugitive Emissions studies.

  • Support the development, sizing and specification of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.

  • Support control system specification and design.

  • Develop conduit and cable schedule creation.

  • Specify cable tray design and supporting means.

  • Support the development of Heat Trace Design with design teams.

  • Support the development of power system studies addressing load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash hazard analysis, and motor starting.

  • Support the development of E-house and electrical building design and construction.

  • Support coordination of process package pre-wire design and construction efforts.

  • Participate in constructability reviews with clientele and contractors.

  • Support the development, specification, quoting, and evaluation of technical bids for electrical material and contract services.

  • Support field construction and commissioning efforts through RFI reviews and on-site assistance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 4-10 years of experience in a similar role with another EPC or end user in the Energy sector.

  • Current professional status membership with APEGA or similar (transferrable) within Canada. Must already be registered as an Engineer-In-Training and on track to receiving P.Eng status or already possess this status.

  • Understanding of industry standards.

  • Solid understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code.

  • Microsoft Office experience and knowledge.

  • Bluebeam Revu experience.

  • Must be effective at time management, and efficient with organization, prioritizing and planning.

  • Must demonstrate verbal and written communication skills and possess the ability to receive and apply constructive feedback.

  • Possessing adaptability is necessary, this role requires self-management, optimism, and calmness to be qualified.

  • Being able to work in a team setting is crucial to this role, must be comfortable with conflict management/ and resolution, collaboration, and coordination.

  • Candidate must have a strong work ethic, be responsible, dependable, and professional always.

  • Power System Study software experience via ETAP and/or SKM is considered an asset.
