Junior Electrical Designer

Office-based, Monday to Friday 8am-5pm

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create and revise electrical drawings, schematics, and diagrams using CAD software, following engineering standards, codes, and project specifications.

  • Assist senior designers and engineers in the preparation of detailed electrical designs, layouts, and plans for oil and gas facilities, including power distribution systems, instrumentation, and control panels.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to incorporate design changes, updates, and revisions into electrical drawings, ensuring accuracy and completeness of documentation.

  • Review and interpret engineering sketches, notes, and specifications to develop detailed electrical drawings and documentation for construction and installation.

  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to address design issues, resolve conflicts, and ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.

  • Assist in the preparation of material take-offs, bills of materials (BOMs), and procurement lists for electrical equipment, components, and materials needed for construction and installation.

  • Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and project discussions to provide input, insights, and recommendations on electrical drawings.

  • Conduct quality checks and verifications of electrical drawings and documentation to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to established standards and specifications.

  • Maintain organized electronic files and records of electrical drawings, revisions, and project documentation, ensuring easy access and retrieval for project team members and stakeholders.

  • Stay updated on CAD software tools, techniques, and best practices for electrical drafting, and seek opportunities for professional development and growth in the field. 

    Specific Tasks 

  • Comprehend P&ID drawings, and instrument indexes.

  • Assist in developing electrical drawings and work packages for industrial facility design. 

  • Assist in the producing of Single Line Drawings. 

  • Draft Area Classification Drawing redlines.

  • Draft uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems drawing redlines. 

  • Assist in drafting of Conduit and cable schedules.

  • Design Heat Trace systems with team guidance. 

  • Draft E-house and electrical buildings.

  • Create package pre-wire designs. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must have an Engineering Design & Drafting Diploma/Certificate

  • General understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code. 

  • Microsoft Office experience and knowledge. 

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu or Adobe, NavisWorks, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Working knowledge of discipline-specific skills, codes, and standard practices.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to self-check and produce accurate designs.
